Sticky Buns are our traditional Christmas morning treat because the quick prep happens the night before. All you do is throw it in the oven in the morning and then revel in the amazing smell and the sticky goodness you'll remember all day.
Ingredients
- Package frozen rolls - Clover rolls or any frozen dinner roll will do. You'll need about 25 rolls little frozen rolls.
- Vanilla pudding - NOT INSTANT, the box should say "cook and serve" pudding
- Brown sugar
- Pecans - optional, but really gives a great little crunch to offset the gooey sugar and soft rolls
- Butter - unsalted or salted works just fine
Instructions
- The night before eating, butter a 10-12 cup bundt pan really well (get into all those nooks and crannies) and set aside.
- In a small bowl, combine dry pudding mix with brown sugar and pecans. Set aside.
- In a microwave safe bowl, melt the butter.
- Add 20-25 frozen rolls to your buttered bundt pan. (Don't overfill, they rise A LOT.) Pour melted butter all over and then sprinkle the entire dry mixture over that.
- Cover loosely with a towel and leave out overnight (8-10 hours), the dough rises by morning.
- Once dough has risen, preheat oven to 350°. Bake on center rack for 45-50 minutes until the rolls on top are well done. (I place a cookie sheet underneath to catch any pecans or sugar that might fall out.)
- Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly (about 3 minutes). Once slightly cooled, invert sticky buns onto a serving plate. Enjoyed best while warm!
Sticky Buns are Perfect for Christmas Morning
These are pull-apart buns, so I usually put them on the table while we open gifts and everyone grabs a little piece (or 5) and keeps that sugary energy high for the Christmas morning frenzy. They're also perfect for celebrating birthday breakfast, or any brunch-type occasion.
I don't remember a Christmas where we didn't have these sticky buns and Pumpkin Bread first thing in the morning. They're really special and since they're so easy to throw together ahead of time, everyone can enjoy Christmas morning with no time wasted in the kitchen.
Sorry for the lack of amazing photos on this one. I actually made it in the evening and then it lasted for about 3 minutes before my kids I gobbled it up. I promise to make the sacrifice of making it again and getting better pics soon!
How to Store Sticky Buns
If there are any sticky buns leftover, wrap tightly with foil and leave at room temperature for up to 3 days. To store longer, wrap in foil and store in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
I haven't tried freezing these sticky buns, but here's my recommendations to try: once fully cooled, wrap sticky buns in saran wrap and then a layer of foil. If it fits in a zip top bag or container, place it in that as well to avoid freezer burn. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator. Remove and allow to come to room temperature or warm in the microwave for 2-2 ½ minutes. Enjoy!

Nat
hello,
Im excited to try this recipe, but I cant find any frozen rolls at my regular grocery store, any recommendations as to where I might be able to find them?
Amy
Hmm, yes, sometimes I have a hard time finding them as well. I haven't tried, but there's no reason you couldn't use pre-made pizza dough or bread dough (found in the refrigerated section) and made the same day. The rise time and bake times will be different, so keep an eye on it. Enjoy!

An absolute perfect Christmas morning treat since it's prepped the night before and tastes delicious.
